NEW INFORMATION ON WEEKEND POLICE CHASE FROM WALLER TO WASHINGTON CO.

More information has been released on Saturday’s police chase out of Waller that ended after the suspect’s vehicle was spiked in Washington County.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., Waller police observed a vehicle commit several traffic infractions.  An officer attempted to stop the vehicle in the 40000 block of Highway 290 West, but the vehicle refused to stop and accelerated.

Waller County dispatchers determined after reviewing the license plate of the vehicle that it was stolen from Austin.  The vehicle led police, Waller County Sheriff’s deputies and DPS on a pursuit with speeds in excess of 120 mph out of Waller County and into Washington County.

Brenham police and DPS successfully deployed spikes to assist in stopping the vehicle, but it continued driving with several damaged tires.  According to Waller police, DPS troopers then performed a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop.  The pursuit ended on Highway 36 North, near FM 1948.

Waller police say the two occupants of the vehicle, who were only identified as females, were detained without incident.  The driver was transported to the Waller County Jail and charged with Felony Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Felony Evading in a Vehicle, while the passenger was released on scene without charges.

The Waller Police Department is refusing to release the identity of the suspect without an open records request.
