FORMER BURTON ISD TRUSTEE FELTON COX DIES

A former trustee on the Burton School Board has died.

Felton Cox

Felton Cox died Sunday at the age of 80.

Cox served on the board beginning in May of 2014.  He did not seek re-election to the board last year, and resigned from the board in June due to medical reasons.

In addition to serving on the Burton School Board, Cox served as a trustee for Ricardo ISD, as well as on various community boards.  He was a youth sports organizer and coach, and served as a longtime member of fellowships at Greenvine Baptist Church and Ricardo Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday school director, and bus ministry director.

Burton ISD Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said the school district appreciates Cox’s service during his time on the board, adding he “brought a lot to the table” and “was always trying to do what is right for the kids.” She said he “was always looking on how to help the students as well as the community.”

Funeral services will be held at the pavilion at Greenvine Baptist Church tomorrow (Friday) at 2 p.m., followed by graveside services at Mount Zion Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel.
