MOVIE ADAPTATION OF FORMER WASHINGTON CO. READ NOVEL SHOWING AT WESTWOOD CINEMA 6

  

The movie adaptation of a novel formerly chosen as the Washington County READ is now on the big screen in Brenham.

Westwood Cinema 6 is currently showing “News of the World,” which was featured as 2017’s READ novel.

The movie was released on Christmas Day in 2020 and is based off the 2016 novel of the same name by Paulette Jiles.

The film, directed by Paul Greengrass, stars Tom Hanks as Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, a Civil War veteran who undertakes a 400 mile journey from North Texas to San Antonio to return a 10-year-old girl to her relatives.  Along the way, Captain Kidd earns money by reading the news to crowds of people from newspapers.

After showing this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday, “News of the World” will play at the theater today (Monday) through Thursday at times of 3:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
