VICTIMS IDENTIFIED IN ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 290 IN WASHINGTON CO.
Update @ 11:30 a.m. February 1: DPS has released the names of the two people killed Saturday morning in a one-vehicle accident west of Brenham.
76-year-old Abdul Velani and 62-year-old Muneera Velani, both of Katy, were killed in the accident, which occurred just after 7:15 a.m. on Highway 290 at Holle Creek.
According to DPS Sergeant Erik Burse, the two were traveling east on Highway 290 in a 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan when their vehicle, driven by Abdul, drifted off the roadway and vaulted off a concrete bridge into the creek.
Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
DPS says investigation into the accident is ongoing.
Original Story @ 11:07 a.m. January 30: Two people are dead following an early-morning accident in Washington County.
According to the Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred just after 7:00 a.m. on U.S. Highway 290 near Harrisburg Road, just west of Brenham.
The passenger vehicle reportedly ran off the road and rolled over.
The driver, a 62-year-old man and passenger, a 76-year-old woman, both from the Katy area, were pronounced dead at the scene.
