ANDREW EBEL NOT RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION TO BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL; ATWOOD KENJURA FILES

  

A longtime Brenham City Councilmember will not run for office again this spring, and a former Blinn trustee has filed to run for his position.

Ward Three Councilmember Andrew Ebel has announced he will not seek re-election in May.

Andrew Ebel has announced he will not seek re-election as Ward Three Councilmember, and Atwood Kenjura filed this (Friday) morning to run for the position.

Ebel was first elected in 1992 and remained on the council until 2004, before being re-elected in 2007.  He also served as Mayor Pro Tem under Mayors Walter Schwartz and Milton Tate.

Ebel said he is grateful for the support he has received during his time in office, but feels that, due to personal reasons, it is time for him to step down.

 

 

Atwood Kenjura has filed for the Brenham City Council position currently held by Andrew Ebel.

Ebel has also been involved in the community with the PTO, Girl Scouts, Washington County Little League, and the Washington County Texas Exes.  He has also served as a member of the Trinity Hospital Foundation Board.

Kenjura, a lifelong resident of Brenham, served for 43 years on the Blinn Board of Trustees.  He is also the pharmacist and owner of Kenjura Pharmacy, and has served as chairman and member of the Brenham Community Development Corporation (BCDC) Board of Directors.  In addition, he has served as Board Director for the Brenham Rotary Club, Washington County Chamber of Commerce, and Brenham Booster Club, and was named Man of the Year by the Chamber in 2011.

Kenjura said he has enjoyed his involvement with the city, and believes with his past experience that he can further serve the community.

 

 

Kenjura joins Leah Cook, as well as incumbents Clint Kolby and Keith Herring, on the list of candidates who have filed for the council.  There are currently no contested races.

Candidates have until next Friday, February 12th to file for a place on the ballot, while Tuesday, February 16th is the last day they can declare write-in candidacy.  Election Day is Saturday, May 1st.
