ONE CONTESTED RACE FOR BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD AS DEADLINE TO FILE FOR CITY, SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS APPROACHES

With a week remaining to file for the upcoming municipal and school board elections in Brenham and Burton, there will be at least one contested race to look out for.

On the Brenham School Board, Michelle Walbeck has filed to run for the position currently held by trustee Tommie Sullivan, who is seeking re-election.  Trustee and Board President Natalie Lange has also filed, along with trustee and Board Vice President Melvin Ehlert.

For the Brenham City Council, incumbents Clint Kolby and Keith Herring have filed for re-election.  Andrew Ebel and Susan Cantey have both announced they will not seek another term in office, and Atwood Kenjura and Leah Cook have filed for those positions, respectively.

Two trustee positions are up for election on the Burton School Board, those being the positions of David Warner, Sr. and Tracey Cox.  Warner has filed for re-election, but Cox resigned from the board in November after announcing the month prior that she would be moving out of the district.  No other candidates have filed.

No applications have been received for the Burton City Council, which has the offices of Mayor David Zajicek and councilmembers Nathan Kalkhake, Paul McLaughlin and Macey Tidwell up for election.  Zajicek is not running for another term.

Next Friday, February 12th is the final day for candidates to file for a place on the ballot, while Tuesday, February 16th is the last day to file as a write-in candidate.  Election Day is Saturday, May 1st.
