WATER CONSERVATION URGED AS WATER LEAKS REPAIRED AROUND BRENHAM

Brenham residents are encouraged to continue conserving water as the city repairs leaks caused by the arctic blast.

City officials said in an update Thursday evening that, in the past 24 hours, staff have identified – and either repaired or isolated – approximately 350 leaks.

The city said while it can now keep water in towers longer, there is still more demand for water than what its system has the capacity to treat.

Due to high demand, water treatment plant staff were forced to reduce the amount of water being put into the system late Thursday afternoon to refill the plant.  City officials said once the plant is full, staff will again push water into the tower as aggressively as possible to fill the system and continue to identify leaks.

Until leaks are repaired throughout the city, water and water pressure may be intermittent.

The city asks residents to continue limiting non-essential water usage like dripping faucets or operating washing machines and dishwashers.

Anyone who sees a leak, whether on their property, in the streets or around the community, is asked to report it by calling 979-337-7400.

A boil water advisory remains in effect for all water customers.  A notice will be sent out when it is no longer necessary to boil water.

The city had power as of 1 a.m. Thursday morning, but noted that if demand spikes again, residents could once again see rolling outages in the area.  Residents without power can call the city at 979-337-7400.
