WASHINGTON CO. ACTIVIST, COMMUNITY SUPPORTER CAROLYN MORAN DIES

  

A longtime community activist and supporter in Washington County has died.

Carolyn Moran died Thursday at the age of 89.

Named Washington County’s Woman of the Year in 2005, Moran served with several local historical organizations, including the Heritage Society of Washington County, Independence Historical Society, and Winedale Historical Center Council.  She was also actively involved in obtaining a state historical marker for the African American Catholic Church in Washington, and served on a committee to supply priests for that congregation.

In addition, Moran was a member of the Arts Council of Washington County, Republican Women’s Club, Trinity Hospital Health Services Foundation, Unity Theatre, Oak Rest Cemetery Association, Washington County Chamber of Commerce, and the board of the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park Association.

Visitation will be held Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel, with family present to receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. and a rosary at 6 p.m.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham.
