FREE COVID-19 COUNSELING, OUTREACH SERVICES AVAILABLE TO AREA RESIDENTS

Resources are available to residents of Washington County and area counties who are in need of assistance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Texans Recovering Together is a crisis counseling assistance and training program through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Texas Health and Human Services.  The program offers free outreach services and short-term crisis counseling to anyone who has been affected directly or indirectly by COVID-19.

Crisis counselor and outreach coordinator Sharhonda Webster said the program is designed to help address mental health issues created by the pandemic.

In addition to crisis counseling, services provided include resource referrals, skill building, grief and loss, and disaster education and awareness.  Testing positive for COVID-19 is not required to participate in the program.

Services will be offered by phone and tele-video, but in-person accommodations will be made for those who do not have virtual access.  They are available at homes, schools, community centers, social service agencies, or other mutually convenient locations.

The program is available to residents of Austin, Brazos, Burleson, Colorado, Fort Bend, Grimes, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Robertson, Walker, Waller, Washington and Wharton counties.

To contact the program hotline, call 936-521-6331.
