AREA COLLEGES, UNIVERSITIES REVIEWING ABBOTT’S ORDER LIFTING COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS
Colleges and universities around the area are reviewing the new executive order from Governor Greg Abbott that rescinds mask requirements and capacity limits for businesses starting next Wednesday.
Blinn College said it is currently reviewing the order, and that current campus health and safety protocols remain in effect at all Blinn locations until further guidance is shared.
Texas A&M University officials say they will keep current rules and protocols regarding face coverings in place until next Wednesday. Before then, the university will announce further guidance related to Abbott’s order.
Sam Houston State University said it is seeking additional guidance from the Office of General Counsel and other entities regarding safety measures and health standards in place. It said all safety protocols will remain in effect at its campuses until further clarification is obtained.
Per Abbott’s order, businesses may continue to implement safety measures and capacity limits if they choose to. County judges in hospital regions with a COVID-19 hospitalization rate of over 15 percent for seven straight days are allowed to impose restrictions, but they cannot reduce capacity below 50 percent.
