BURTON ISD KEEPING CURRENT MASK REQUIREMENTS

Burton ISD will retain its current COVID-19 protocols and mask policies.

Following Governor Greg Abbott’s order lifting facemask requirements and other COVID-19 restrictions, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) stated local school boards have “full authority to determine their local mask policy,” and that those policies can continue unchanged.

In a statement, Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said the school district is confident that the process it has in place to address COVID-19 will allow it to “prioritize learning while continuing to provide on-campus instruction.” She said at this time, face coverings and other preventative measures will continue to be required for the district.

On Wednesday, Brenham ISD announced it would also keep its current policies on mask wearing.

Dr. Kennedy also thanked Washington County Emergency Management officials for providing district staff with information on how to register for the COVID-19 vaccine.  The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) recently announced that school and child care workers can now be vaccinated.
