CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Blinn College freshman outside hitter Jayde Shelton (San Diego, Calif.) was named the Tachikara NJCAA DI Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for her outstanding performance in Week 7 of the 2020-21 season.

Shelton led the No. 12 Buccaneers with 76 kills and a .463 hitting percentage in 15 sets. She helped Blinn sweep five opponents, including No. 20 Tyler, after scoring a season-high 23 kills. The Buccaneers also swept Wharton County Junior College, Trinity Valley Community College, Ranger College, and Coastal Bend College for a perfect Week 7.

“It is a great accomplishment and I have to thank my team for helping me get there,” Shelton said. “Our passing was great and our setting was amazing, so that is what led me to be so successful. I love the enthusiasm our team has on and off the court, and I enjoy our team chemistry.”

Shelton leads Blinn this season and ranks sixth in the nation with a .405 hitting percentage and 4.55 kills per set.

“I think it is a great honor for Jayde and our team, and shows how hard she has worked on her game to improve,” head coach Terry Gamble said. “She asks great questions, she always wants to learn, and always wants to get better, and I think that contributes to her success. I think she brings an energy to us that is really important and that carries over to her teammates.”

Blinn is now 13-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The Buccaneers host conference opponent Victoria College in a doubleheader on Thursday, March 11, at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the Kruse Center.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
