BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS LEASE AGREEMENT FOR SIMON THEATER
The lease agreement for the Simon Theater in downtown Brenham will be among the topics discussed by the Brenham City Council at its meeting Thursday.
The council will consider approving an assignment of lease and memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding the historic facility from Simon Theater Master Tenant, LLC to Brenham Main Street Historical Preservation, Inc.
The city was recently notified of the dissolution of the tax credit entities related to the Simon Theater restoration project. Simon Theater Master Tenant was created to facilitate the use of historic tax credits to assist in financing improvements to the facility. According to the lease agreement, the requirements and obligations related to the tax credit program have been satisfied, so there is no longer a need for the Master Tenant.
Through this item, the Master Tenant will assign all right, title and interest in and to the lease agreement and MOU to the Historical Preservation, which will accept all duties and obligations of the Master Tenant, in addition to being the owner of the facility.
Historical Preservation President Hal Moorman said previously that the organization’s goal upon completing the restoration project is to turn the facility over to the city for use.
Also at Thursday’s meeting, the council will:
- Meet in executive session to consult with the city’s attorney regarding a lease agreement with Aviators Plus, LLC to lease and occupy the terminal building at the Brenham Municipal Airport. After executive session, the council will act upon the lease agreement and on an amendment to the city’s existing agreement with Aviators Plus to authorize it to operate as a Fixed Base Operator at the airport.
- Hold an executive session to discuss utility competitive matters, concerning the city’s gas sales contract with West Texas Gas, Inc.
- Hold a workshop to discuss and review the Fiscal Year 2019-20 fourth quarter financial report.
- Consider a fitness center services agreement between the city and American Specialty Health Fitness, Inc. related to the Silver and Fit program at the Blue Bell Aquatic Center.
- Look at a professional services agreement between the city and Sledge Engineering, LLC related to a strategic facility plan.
- Consider a pair of ordinances on first reading, one for the placement of a stop sign on Vineyard Pass at its intersection with Highway 36 North, and the other for a stop sign on Ava Drive at its intersection with Old Masonic Road.
- Consider accepting the audit from Seidel Schroeder for Fiscal Year 2020.
The council will meet Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
