ALTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS TO SHOWCASE CITY, PARK DESIGNS TO CITY COUNCIL

Third graders at Alton Elementary School will have the chance Thursday to show Brenham city officials how they would create a new park and design a city.

The Brenham City Council will hold a virtual workshop to let students showcase their designs of the Brenham Family Park, which is currently being designed by Jones|Carter Engineering.  Students were tasked with providing a park layout, amenities located in the park, and a park name.

Students were also given a simplified map of downtown Brenham and asked to designate certain areas of the town as different uses, including a neighborhood, school, grocery store, fire station, restaurant, and various other landmarks and community essentials.

For the past few years, the Brenham Development Services Department and Brenham City Council have coordinated with the third grade class at Alton Elementary School to discuss the growth of Brenham and corresponding needs, proposed design, and desires according to the students.  This year’s workshop will be held virtually due to continued COVID-19 concerns.

During the meeting, students will be available for questions about the two projects and why they chose to design both the park and the community the way they did.
