GIDDINGS CHIEF ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT PLANS

The City of Giddings is looking for a new police chief.

Chief Haril Walpole
(Giddings Police Dept.)

Current Chief Haril Walpole informed City Council of his intent to retire on Oct. 3.

The six-months advanced notice gives the Council time to find a replacement, and it comes after the budget for next year is complete, which will make the transition easier for the next chief.

Chief Walpole has served as Giddings police chief for seven years. “

Walpole plans to stay in the Giddings area and just relax for a while, and plans on building on the travel agency business he and his wife Karen started, as well as maybe opening another small business locally.

  1. Giddings city employees get a forty percent higher level of retirement compared with Brenham employees. Washington County is forty percent higher too. Obviously, better city management allows better employee retirement benefits. Is that why Brenham management has decided to fire their own longtime employees? Does Brenham management and CFO plan to clean house to avoid higher retirement benefits? When they plan to get a more competitive retirement package? This will likely be a major class action lawsuit when proven. This would make a great newsworthy story if a good reporter knew how to properly investigate the facts.
