FIRST WEEK OF EARLY VOTING COMES TO AN END

  

 

Week one of early voting for the May 1st Brenham and Burton municipal and school board elections draws to a close with nearly 900 voters casting ballots.

According to County Clerk Beth Rothermel, as of the end of Friday, 898 of the county’s 20,830 registered voters had cast a ballot in the BISD Board Election.  In the City Council election, just 543 of the 8,938 registered voters had voted.

Friday, 152 voted in the School Board election, while 92 voted for the City Council.

The contested races for the Brenham School Board include: Board Vice President Melvin Ehlert facing Christine Giese and Jared Krenek; while incumbent Tommie Sullivan faces Michelle Walbeck; Board President Natalie Lange is running unopposed.

The Brenham City Council races feature Ward One incumbent Keith Herring facing Shannan Canales; Place Five at-large incumbent Clint Colby and challenger Allan Colvin; and the Place Six at large position between Leah Cook and Albert Buchanan.  Atwood Kenjura is running unopposed for the Wards Three seat.

Early Voting continues at the Courthouse Annex in downtown Brenham next week, with extended hours Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Curbside voting is also available to those who cannot physically get into the early voting polling place.  There is special parking in front of the Courthouse Annex for this.

Early voting also continues for the Burton School Board.  The race features: David Warner, Sr., Boris Jumper, Sr. and Brian Hinze running for two at-large spots.

So far, 35 votes have been cast in that election, with 2 people voting Friday.

Early voting for Burton is taking place at the Burton ISD Administrative Office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Election Day is Saturday, May 1st.

  1. I dont understand ! Through reading the comments of various changes and happening in the city and city government…..I hear nothing but people complaining on city council and how the have to Go Go Go !!!!

    Doesn’t seem like you all care now right ! These voting numbers are ridiculous !

    RIGHT NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE CHANGE
    VOTE TO BRING IN A NEW SET OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS IN !

    Instead if you all trying to change city council members maybe you all would be better not even commenting on what a poor job they are doing if you cannot go and make a difference and VOTE THEM OUT !

  2. I guess the citizens of Brenham do not care who is elected. you can see by the low turn out they are happy with the people there. I just hope those who did not vote do not complain as usual.
