CUBETTES SET FOR RETURN TO PLAYOFFS AGAINST NEW CANEY, WEDNESDAY NIGHT

 

For the first time in four years, the Brenham Cubettes are preparing for the post-season.

The Cubettes (21-9/10-4) will face New Caney (20-8/12-3) in best two-of-three, with all games being played at Katy Paetow High School.

Brenham is the #3-seed out of District 19/5A, with their only district losses coming to state-ranked Magnolia West and Waller.

The Cubettes will send freshman Della Jezinski to the circle.  Jezinski has been outstanding in her freshman season, with a 19-7 record, a 1.94 ERA, 238 strikeouts in 151 innings, and two no-hitters.

The Cubettes’ three seniors, Kramer Eschette, Maggie Hodde and Jenna Hardy have helped pace the offense: Eschete, .606, 48 runs, 23 rbi; Hodde, .403, 21 runs, 11 rbi; Hardy, .376, 18 runs, 28 rbi.

Underclassmen have also contributed to the success of the 2021 Cubettes: Halle Scheel (.388, 24 runs, 10 rbi); Cortney Ragnes (.293, 16 runs, 18 rbi); Kenley Mikolajchak (.287, 12 runs, 27 rbi); Annie Beckendorf (.286, 21 runs, 14 rbi) and Cameron Stolz (.281, 12 runs, 15 rbi).

New Caney clinched the #2 seed in 20/5A, winning a district playoff game with Kingwood Park, Monday, 2-0 in nine innings.  Savannah Youngblood pitched nine shutout innings, allowing just one hit.  Mya Bradshaw and Marisella Mendoza drove in the Lady Eagles’ two runs.

This is New Caney’s first appearance in the post-season since 2013.

Game one is set for Wednesday night at 6:30 at Paetow (23111 Stockdick Road, Katy).  KWHI will have live coverage beginning at 6:00 on AM 1280, FM 101.7 and www.kwhi.com.
