CANALES, COOK WIN ELECTION TO BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL; KOLBY RE-ELECTED

The Brenham City Council will have several new faces, following Saturday night’s election for three contested seats and one uncontested race.
In the Ward 1 council race, challenger Shannan Canales defeated incumbent Keith Herring 183-148.
Canales said she appreciates Herring’s service on the council and is eager to get to work.
Herring, who has been Ward 1 Councilmember since 2004, said he is happy to have served and is willing to be a resource for new members.
For At-Large Position 5, Clint Kolby defended his seat against Allan Colvin, winning 653-507.
Kolby, a member of the council since 2018, said he wants to continue to prioritize making Brenham a better place for residents and visitors.
Colvin said he has a lot of confidence in Kolby’s future efforts on the council, but voters should expect to see Colvin’s name on the ballot again, soon.
In the At-Large Position 6 race, Leah Cook will fill the seat of Susan Cantey, who did not run for another term. Cook defeated Albert Buchanan 982-224.
Cook said she is thankful for the public’s support, and looks forward to her new role.
Update @ 7:05 a.m. Monday: KWHI was unable to reach Buchanan for comment Saturday night, but Buchanan did respond with a written statement Sunday morning. He said he enjoyed the experience of being in the race and process, and congratulated Cook on her win and wished her success for her term.
Running unopposed for the Ward 3 position of Andrew Ebel, who did not seek re-election, was Atwood Kenjura, who received 373 votes.

There are a total of 9,511 registered voters in the city, meaning that would be a 12.44 percent turnout. The results are considered unofficial until they are canvassed by the city council which will be done Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Brenham City Hall.
