MAIFEST PICNIC KICKS OFF FESTIVITIES

  

Brenham Maifest celebrations were ushered in Wednesday afternoon with the Kick-off Picnic at the Fireman’s Park Pavilion.

The picnic was held to recognize the sponsors and volunteers who make Maifest possible, and featured German food, refreshments and entertainment, along with a ribbon cutting and children’s Maipole dance.

Today (Thursday), the Mighty Thomas Carnival opens on the Maifestival grounds at Fireman’s Park.  The carnival will be open today from 5 to 11 p.m., tomorrow (Friday) from 4 to 11 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Festivities continue on Friday with the Junior Maifest Coronation at 7 p.m., featuring Queen Dinah Grace Sue Neil and King John Paul Kenjura, who will reign over the court of “It’s a Small World.”  Steven Marshall will perform at 8:30 p.m. following the Junior Coronation.

Saturday opens with the Maifest parade through downtown Brenham at 10:30 a.m.  KWHI will broadcast the parade live starting at 10 a.m.  The Maifestival grounds will be open all day for dance performances, food trucks, a home brew contest, beer tasting, and live music from The Oompahs and The Seven Dutchmen Orchestra.

The Senior Maifest Coronation will be held Saturday at 7 p.m.  Senior Maifest Royalty, Queen Clara Ashley Hamilton and King Carter Houston McVean, will reign over the court of “British Invasion.”  After the coronation ceremony, the Brown Sugar Band will perform at 8:30 p.m.

Admission to the festival grounds is free.  Coronation tickets are only being sold online this year, and are limited to 75 percent capacity.
