BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO CONSIDER ADJUSTING COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

The Burton School Board will consider making changes to Burton ISD’s COVID-19 protocols at its meeting Monday.

Members of the Burton School Board meet Monday, April 12th. The meeting was broadcast via Zoom.

At the board’s meeting in April, Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said she wanted to allow trustees to discuss making masks optional before the beginning of end-of-school year events.  Several school districts across the state, including Brenham ISD, have either lifted their mask mandates or announced plans to do so before the end of the year.

Also at Monday’s meeting, trustees will discuss potentially increasing prekindergarten tuition costs.  Action on the matter was tabled at the board’s meeting last month, in order to give the board more time to look into giving discounts for employees or parents with multiple children in prekindergarten.

The board will also hold discussion on a potential bond election to be held in November.  Upgrades to the district’s facilities have been discussed several times by the board, with Dr. Kennedy saying in January that academic facilities are being prioritized.

In other items, the board will consider:

  • A dean of instruction position.
  • The projected salary/pay structure.
  • Purchasing interactive TVs for elementary classrooms.
  • Renovation of the elementary playground.
  • Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) grant funds.
  • Canvassing the returns from the May 1st board election.
  • Reports from the superintendent, elementary and high school principals and athletic director.

The board will meet Monday evening at 6 p.m.  The public can access the meeting using the login or call-in information posted below.  Public comments must be submitted to ekennedy@stu.burtonisd.net between 5:15 and 5:45 p.m. Monday evening to be included in the meeting.
