  1. 2019-Brenham baseball goes 22-11 but just 7-7 in district while starting only 1 senior. The 35 year playoff streak is over and supt/ad inform coach that his services are no longer needed. (Not a good fit/new direction needed) Within a week the former coach is hired by cedar park, a team that only won 5 games in ‘19.
2020- cubs start slowly but get hot before being shut down by covid as they return pretty much the entire team.
2021- cubs improve on their 2019 mark by 4 games as they go 26-7 with 5 2019 starters. Bosse, kolkhorst, cone, Jezierski, and Warmke. They get 2nd place in district and are eliminated in the 1st round. Cedar park wins their district and bi-district round while maintaining a top ten ranking the entire 2nd half of the season. Cedar park also plays for a state football title while the cubs fall in the 1st round to mighty marble falls. Within 5 years cub athletics has gone from playoffs in every sport and deep playoffs runs being common place to a program where just making the playoffs is a challenge. Hopefully, better times will return soon.

    1. You sure have alot of details in your “fax”…..makes me wonder who this is? SMH…

    2. Not sure if this is a contributing factor, but Cedar Park has 17 seniors on a 24 man roster in a weaker district than Brenham. That’s a bumper crop of senior leadership and hopefully talent! Any idea how many are committed to the next level?

    3. Unless your looking for a one/two off season every 15-20 years just due to the overwhelming talent pool, the chances of what you’re looking for will only decrease. You should really give BISD credit for maximizing what they do have and have done and they’ve done it with so little.

If you want to change our path to something more like Cedar Park, you have to attract the types of people (through good and plentiful jobs and or living standards) that produce the families and children that live in those types of places. Most local public schools are trying in vain to keep up with other school public schools that have atleast 60-70 percent of children coming from good homes that have love, time, resources and absolute dedication to them. School kids like those at Cedar Park have those things 24 x 7, 365 days a year and the results compound. The majority of kids in Brenham get most of those things at school, maybe a little at home but alot more harm than good at home and those results inversely compound. It will never matter how much tax money we spend on things like resource teachers, child care, pedigree coaches, latest equipment and IT without improving the family and resulting child raw material as a community.

I encourage you to take a deep dive into the scores on SATs for non disadvantaged kids, the amount of disadvantaged/at risk kids. Unlike our state standardized test, the results cannot be subjectively altered. Then take a look at two parent married homes paired with household income, home ownership paired with household debt, income disparity paired with crime. Behavior matters and all of these things will tell you how parents and their children behave.
Look at the qualities I’ve mentioned at perennial powerhouse and championship schools like Allen, Argyle, Aledo, Carroll, Westlake, Katy, Abilene Wylie. They are all just as strong or stronger academically.

One of the few outliers is Carthage, they must be an athlete factory there like no place else.

I wish it were as simple as coaching. I don’t think coaching is even a quarter of the battle anymore, most decent coaches know how to win.

    4. With such “fax” rather than “facts” it might be more beneficial to leave a name in the comments…..?

    5. SOMEBODY just cannot let this go and I am tired of the lies and innuendos. Just the fax, you obviously do not know the meaning of the word “facts”. The former “coach” was NOT hired within a week of being shown the door. AND, the only reason he was even considered for the CP job was due to the relationship between the prior AD at BISD and the AD at Leander ISD. He did not get that job on his own merits and probably would not have received an interview without the outside help. “It is not what you know it is who you know”.
FINALLY, shortly after the Brenham baseball coaching change, a Cub baseball player received a valuable scholarship offer from a 4 year university based on the players merits as a person, student, and baseball player. After the player received the offer, college coach called the former Brenham coach who backstabbed the player telling numerous lies to the point that player’s scholarship offer was pulled by the college coach. Within days, this Cub player committed to another school and is doing quite well to say the least.
I cannot think of a lower, more despicable act a high school coach could commit in this role. It only validates in my mind that this person was not worthy of coaching in this or any community.
A “good coach” is so much more than wins and losses. It includes exhibiting and teaching character, integrity, honesty, value of the TEAM, teaching your players life lessons along the way, and showing the players how to be good citizens in the community in which they live.
And in that regard, I damn proud of the fact that Chase Wheaton is leading the Brenham Cub baseball program!!!

      1. Exactly! Very well said….there’s so much more to being a head coach & the former baseball coach was not that.

    6. Wow “Just the fax”, thank you for your positive outlook. It’s comments just like this that make me and others want to be a part of the community of Brenham. Thank you for doing your part in making this town awesome!

On a factual note, it would be cool if you recognized only a fraction of the heart and soul these kids devote to try and make their community proud.

      Steve…. an educated citizen!!

    8. Our baseball program is better off without the former coach!! Should have at least 2 more banners flying, but his toxic nature created an atmosphere that was not conducive to winning!! I’m sure he’s on his best “behavior” right now at CP, but give it time, his true colors will shine through. Last few years have been challenging, but the program desperately needed new leadership!! I’m honored that he felt the need stop by to comment and that he is still thinking of us.
