FUNKY ART CAFE IN DOWNTOWN BRENHAM CLOSES
Today (Thursday) marked the last day of business for a longtime staple of downtown Brenham.
Funky Art Café closed its doors today after nearly 20 years of operation.
Funky Art Café owner Connie Wilder, who started the business in June 2001, called the decision to close “multi-faceted,” and said she is ready to move on to new things.
Wilder said she will continue to work at The Pomegranate, which opened in 1978 and shares space with Funky Art Café. She said The Pomegranate plans to offer more cooking demonstrations and in-store demos.
According to Wilder, some café employees have already begun other jobs, and most have received job offers.

Connie…I am so upset to hear that you have closed…your cafe has always been my favorite lunch place . Your menu, your food, the atmosphere… It always felt like a party to be there. What a big gap it will be in the downtown community to not have the Funky Art Cafe. Wishing you much success and happiness as you move on.
Please put out a cookbook! That was our favorite for place 2-3 times a week. Going to be so missed!!!
The Funky Art was a truly unique and fun place. Many great memories made there, including our daughter’s rehearsal dinner in 2010.
Thank you Connie!
Other pumpkin burgers will never compare!!
I agree! My favorite!
This is so disappointing. One of our favorite places to grab lunch in Brenham. It was so unique and unlike any other spot in town. With excellent food as well! Perhaps someone could buy the name and recipes?
Connie, Funky Art was the only place I would take out of town guests for lunch. Your menus were creative, healthy and always well, prepared and presented. Twenty years in any successful retail food service is grueling and here’s hoping you enjoy the rest.
I worked for funky art cafe and it’s so sad to hear that I’m remember the delicious food we preparad everything was so good and we feel like a family place God bless you Connie ..
Your sweet smile and talent will be greatly missed by us all in Brenham.
Blessings to your future.
Connie, you made a truly unique and wonderful experience in The Funky Art Cafe. i remember our Class of ’78 20 year Reunion being held there with fond memories. Love this place! Would love it if you sold a Funky Art Cafe cookbook in The Pomegranate! Best of luck to you on your next adventure…
I hate to hear this!! Funky Art Cafe was my favorite place to eat in Brenham!!! I’m going to miss my Sound of Music salad!! This is terrible news!
My absolute FAVORITE lunch spot. Very sad. I would have enjoyed advanced notice and one last lunch!
Connie, The Funky Art Cafe was a great place to eat with a different menu that other businesses in Brenham didn’t have. I loved coming in a bringing friends who had never been there or meeting someone for lunch. I understand moving on to other things. Your restaurant will be missed.
Funky Art has been a downtown Brenham staple for so long. Thank you, Connie, for your love of our community and years of service. You will be missed!
