HISTORICAL MARKER FOR WASHINGTON CO. WWI VETERANS TO BE DEDICATED MONDAY

The public is invited on Monday to the dedication ceremony for an official Texas Historical Marker honoring World War I veterans of Washington County.

The ceremony will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Plaza at Fireman’s Park in Brenham.

According to the Washington County Historical Commission, at least 51 men from Washington County died while on active duty in the war.

Texas Historical Commission Executive Director Mark Wolfe said the state’s Historical Marker program “helps bring attention to community treasures and the importance of their preservation.”

Washington County Historical Commission Chair Tom Stevens said this marker “will not only provide awareness to Washington County citizens of the incredible history of our county, but it will also help to stimulate local tourism.”

A special invitation to the ceremony is extended to military veterans.  Light refreshments provided by H-E-B of Brenham will be available at the American Legion Hall after the ceremony.
