BELLVILLE MAKING OFFER ON LAND FOR NEW POLICE STATION

The Bellville City Council has authorized the mayor to make an offer on land for a new police station.

The council authorized Mayor James Harrison to deliver an offer of $325,000 for two acres of land at the northeast corner of West Main and Chelsea.

Harrison told council members this would be the property for the department.  The proposal passed unanimously.

The city has spent the past three years exploring options for a new facility.  Since 1996 the city has rented the building at the corner of Bell and Palm to house the department.

A study, commissioned in 2018, concluded the current facility is too small for the department’s needs.  It goes on to say that while the current station is conveniently located, it has a lack of parking and would not be able to expand to meet the needs of the department over the next 30 years.
