The fourth-generation owner of a historic downtown Brenham business has died.

John Hermann, who in 1974 became the owner of Hermann Furniture, died at the hospital Saturday.

Hermann expanded the store, which was opened in 1876 by Gottlieb Hermann, to its current size after acquiring the building adjacent to it.  He was also a strong advocate and supporter of downtown Brenham.

Services are pending with Brenham Memorial Chapel.

  1. For a short period in the early 90’s I was a vendor to John at G.Herman Furniture. He was ALWAYS a gentleman and well respected in the furniture industry. He certainly had to navigate the business during some very tough times . While still remaining kind and warm hearted ! Wishing his family prayers , thoughts and peace for their loss.
