A former Washington County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant is running for Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace for Washington County.

Duane “Dane” Houston is seeking election to the position vacated in June after the retirement of Ken Tofel.  Houston will run in the Republican Primary in March against Daniel McCarthy.

A Washington County native, Houston joined the Sheriff’s Office in 2004 as a jailer, later becoming a patrol deputy, patrol sergeant and eventually patrol lieutenant.

Since his retirement in 2017, Houston says he has felt there is still something he can give back to the community, and believes this position would allow him to do that.

Houston graduated in 1972 from Brenham High School and in 1976 from Texas A&M University with a degree in business administration.  Upon graduating, he obtained a master plumbers license and started a plumbing business, which he operated for 22 years prior to joining the Sheriff’s Office.

Houston says fairness and honesty are two principles he strongly values.

All four Justice of the Peace positions are up for election next year.  The primary elections will be held on March 1, 2022.
