NAVASOTA POLICE ARREST MURDER SUSPECT

Leon Burrell, Jr.
(Grimes Co. Jail)

Navasota police have arrested a man wanted for murder.

Police arrested 37-year-old Leon Burrell, Jr. of Navasota Thursday afternoon.  He was taken into custody without incident after a traffic stop.

Burrell is accused of shooting and killing 45-year-old Clifton Love of Navasota shortly after 8:15 p.m. Wednesday night at the Laredo Heights Apartments on Laredo Street.

According to Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt, the incident was sparked after Burrell and Love had been arguing throughout the day.  The two were continuing their argument in the apartment parking lot when Burrell produced a weapon and shot Love.  Love died from his injuries early Thursday morning after being flown to a Bryan hospital.

A woman who was with Love was assaulted by Burrell before he fled the scene.  She was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Myatt said additional charges against Burrell are possible.
