CITY OF BRENHAM SEEKING $4.4 MILLION IN COVID-19 RELIEF FUNDS
The City of Brenham is applying for over $4 million in COVID-19 relief funding.
At a budget workshop Wednesday, the Brenham City Council approved submitting documentation to receive funds from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, through the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (CLFRF). The program’s allocation for the City of Brenham totals $4,426,200 separated in two payments of $2,213,100, one this year and one next year.
City Manager James Fisher said city staff are still reviewing the various conditions of what the funding can be used for.
Under the American Rescue Plan Act, the CLFRF provides funding for eligible local governments. The U.S. Treasury manages distribution of these funds to Texas counties and cities with populations above 50,000. Cities with populations of less than 50,000 are classified as non-entitlement units of local government and will receive funding distributed by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM).
According to the agenda packet for Wednesday’s meeting, the CLFRF allocation for the State of Texas is $10.5 billion. The allocation for Texas counties with direct U.S. Treasury payments totals $5.7 billion, while Texas cities with direct payments are set to receive $3.4 billion. Texas cities who are not receiving payments directly from the U.S. Treasury are expected to receive $1.4 billion.
Fisher said the first payment could possibly come by late August or September.
