A&M REGENTS DISCUSSING UT/OU MOVE TO S.E.C.
Members of the Board of Regents of the Texas A&M System are scheduled to meet Wednesday to continue discussions relating to Texas A&M and the Southeastern Conference.
The board will meet in person on Wednesday at 4 p.m., mostly in executive session.
A telephone meeting among the regents Monday, was held almost exclusively in executive session. School officials say Monday’s meeting was just informational and no action was taken by the Board.
At the center of the discussion: the University of Texas and University of Oklahoma potentially joining the SEC as soon as this week.
Both schools made their intentions of departing the Big 12 Conference Monday, by announcing in a joint statement that neither one of them will renew their grants of media rights after they expire in 2025.
Texas and Oklahoma, though, could make it out of the Big 12 as early as 2022 if they can negotiate a buyout deal that is satisfactory for the conference, and get approval by the SEC members.
