HOUSTON-AREA WOMAN ARRESTED IN FAYETTE CO. AFTER DRUGS, WEAPON FOUND IN VEHICLE

  

A Houston-area woman faces drug and weapon charges after her arrest Friday night in Fayette County.

Around 9:30 p.m., a deputy stopped a 2019 Chevrolet Impala on Highway 71 near FM 955, northwest of Ellinger, for traffic violations.

The deputy reported smelling marijuana from the vehicle.  The man driving the vehicle said there was marijuana in the console.

After searching the vehicle, the deputy found a backpack in the backseat that held a loaded pistol, five Xanax pills and two small baggies with a white powdery substance.  A passenger, 39-year-old Veronica Ann Lopez of Pasadena, admitted the substance was cocaine and that it belonged to her.

Lopez was taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center, where she was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon.

The driver was released with the vehicle.
