FREE SCHOOL MEALS FOR BRENHAM, BURTON, ROUND TOP-CARMINE STUDENTS

All students in Brenham, Burton and Round Top-Carmine ISDs will be eligible for free school meals during the upcoming school year.

Typically, a student’s household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals.  However, new guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) allows schools to offer meals at no cost to all students for the 2021-22 school year.

This allows enrolled students to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch daily.

While no application or eligibility determination is required for students to receive free meals this school year, income eligibility requirements are expected to resume next year.  As such, families are encouraged to complete applications this school year to ensure eligibility for free or reduced-price meals during the first 30 days of the 2022-23 school year while next year’s applications are being processed.

  1. That’s great! But out of curiosity, are the schools receiving supplements for the purchasing of the food? The funds have to come from somewhere.
