A historic steam engine will make a few local stops along its route.

Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s only operating Big Boy locomotive, left Cheyenne, Wyoming August 5th.

The train is scheduled for a stop in Hearne on Sunday (August 15).  It will depart Monday for a stop in Navasota, arriving at 10:25 a.m.  The engine will be at the intersection of McAlpine Street and Railroad Street until 11:15 a.m.

After leaving Navasota, the train will head to Hempstead, stopping at the Wilkins Street crossing at 11:55 a.m. and leaving at 12:40 p.m.  It will then travel to Houston, where it will be on display Tuesday before heading through East Texas and eventually Louisiana.

This is the locomotive’s first tour since it was restored for 2019’s “Great Race” tours celebrating the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad’s completion.
