CONGRESSMAN McCAUL CALLS AFGHANISTAN WITHDRAWAL ‘AN UNMITIGATED DISASTER’

U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul believes President Joe Biden’s handling of the American withdrawal from Afghanistan to be “an unmitigated disaster of epic proportions.”

U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul visits with KWHI News Director Josh Blaschke about the current situations in Afghanistan and at the U.S.-Mexico border.

McCaul, who represents Texas’ 10th Congressional District and is the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, visited KWHI today (Tuesday) for an in-studio interview to discuss the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, as well as rising numbers of migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Speaking on Afghanistan, McCaul criticized President Biden for not heeding intelligence that warned the Afghanistan army could not sustain a surge from the Taliban without America’s help.  He believes this situation will be a “stain on this presidency” and could lead to increased terrorism.

When discussing immigration, McCaul said President Biden should not have suspended the Trump administration’s Migrant Protection Protocols, also known as the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which sent asylum seekers to wait in Mexico border towns for their hearings in American courtrooms.  He said the ruling of a federal judge in Texas last week ordering the Biden administration to enforce the policy could be a solution.

McCaul’s full interview can be heard through the media player below.  It can also be watched on the KWHI Facebook page.

  1. For those who are interested, the Congressional Research Service has a short document from June 11 of this year that relates the background and various intricacies of this whole matter. As citizens, (and especially if you are actively involved in political issues) to know the conflict’s background, what has been done (or not) and what lawmakers know in entering into a decision is vital.
