Governor Greg Abbott has signed a bill authored by State Senator Lois Kolkhorst that limits co-pays for insulin.

On Wednesday, Abbott ceremonially signed Senate Bill 827 into law, after the bill officially took effect on September 1st.  The new law limits the co-pays to $25 for each insulin prescription per month for insured Texans on state-regulated health plans.

Abbott thanked Kolkhorst, Representative Eddie Lucio III and other members of the Texas Legislature for their work on the bill during a ceremony in Edinburg.

Kolkhorst said insulin “is a matter of life and death,” adding that for many Texans, rising prices “have forced them to the breaking point.”  She said the passage of this bill should help ensure that “no Texan has to choose between paying for food or insulin.”

Abbott said as the state works to build a healthier future, it needs to address rising insulin costs.  He said he is proud to have signed the bill and believes it will bring “major financial relief to Texans with diabetes.”

  1. At least Abbott finally did something beneficial for the citizens of this state. I usually vote Republican, but some of the laws he has recently enacted have had me significantly questioning the conservative party and his control.

    1. Abbott is doing great.
Just the idea of you saying you might vote against him, and for the other side, shows you are misguided.

      1. If the last seven months has not taught one how to define total political, diplomatic and social disaster, The future is a very grim one indeed. Redefining the meaning of words and brainwashing is extremely effective against a citizenry not taught the skill of critical thinking.

      2. Gov. Abbott has the lowest approval rating since he took office. He is not doing great. I voted for Abbott but never again. He is trying to cozy up to the Trump supporters (anti-vaxers, anti-maskers) with his policies. But I’m afraid many wont be left after Covid runs its course.
I think Abbott has lost his mind. He says……. “going to lock up all the rapist”,……. ” 6 months is plenty of time to decide to get an abortion”. This is crazy talk. What an embarrassment for the whole state.
“MISGUIDED” you say. Who made you the expert of the town. You throw your 2 cents in almost everyday as if people think you know what you are talking about. Just more hot air.

        1. Plenty of people will be left because COVID is here to stay vaccinated or not. If you don’t like it in Texas with our governor then by all means leave to California. They will be more to your liking.

        2. Well, I call it as I see it, and as I believe it to be true. Based on my opinion, guided by education, general basic knowledge, and experience.
In my opinion, as I see it.

We are all titled to our own.

Try and look at the facts, without emotion. You will be happier for it.
          It will be okay.
If you do not like the Governor, than get out to support a different candidate with a better plan for our State. No one is perfect, but I think he has done a good job, for the most part. At least we are here.
We are all very lucky that we live in Washington County, Texas.
One of the better places to occupy in the State, let alone the entire Country.
