WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS PROCLAIM OCT. 29 ‘THINK PINK THURSDAY’

Washington County Commissioners are participating in an initiative to promote breast cancer awareness.
Commissioners at their meeting this (Tuesday) morning proclaimed October 28th as “Think Pink Thursday”. The “Think Pink” day is held every October, which is recognized nationally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Baylor Scott & White Clinical Operations Director Melissa McCune announced that tomorrow (Wednesday) will mark the first use of new 3-D mammography equipment at Baylor Scott and White – The Brenham Clinic.

McCune said the new technology allows for additional mammogram images to be taken in a shorter time and with greater detection ability.
Lois Holley, representing the local breast cancer support group Bosom Buddies, said it is always important to remember how serious breast cancer is and how dangerous it can be.

Citizens are invited on the 28th to “Paint the Town Pink” at a drive-thru event at Baylor Scott & White – The Brenham Clinic from 5 to 7 p.m., which will feature activities and educational opportunities.
Bosom Buddies is currently taking butter braid orders for the holiday season. There are a variety of flavors available, and the cost is $15. Orders are due on the 28th, and delivery is Tuesday, November 16th from 3 to 5 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church. To place an order, call 979-836-1413.
Also at today’s meeting, commissioners:
- Approved updates to the position description for the director of Washington County E-911, following the departure of previous director Kristi Stamnes. Human Resources Director Teresa Sazedj said the changes updated the format of the previous description in regards to minimum and preferred job requirements.
- Did not approve a temporary assignment pay (TAP) policy for Washington County EMS employees. The policy would provide compensation for employees who are required to temporarily fill in for an employee in a higher class. The item will be brought back before commissioners at a future meeting to account for employees in all public safety departments, not just EMS.
- Approved a clinical agreement with Baylor Scott & White Clinic for paramedic clinic internships with Dr. William Loesch.
- Approved the voting of candidates for the Washington County Tax Appraisal District Board of Directors. The current members are John Schaer, Charles Gaskamp, Johanna Fatheree, Leslie Boehnemann Jr. and Joe Antkowiak.
- Granted permission to the county engineer to advertise for bids for one used motor-grader. Bids will be due to the county on October 25th at 10 a.m. and will be considered during commissioners court on the 26th.
- Granted conditional approval for a final plat for The Farm Houses of Pleasant Hill subdivision, which includes 10 residential lots and one road.
- Approved a replat for Lot 23 in the Chappell Hills subdivision in Precinct 2.
- Approved formal notice from PGMS for a road bore at 2041 Strangmeier Road for a 2-inch casing for a 1-inch water service line in Precinct 3.
- Approved formal notice from GeoSouthern Chalk II, LLC for a temporary above-ground fresh water line to be laid within the right of way of Cedar Oaks Drive, Forrest Lane, Quarry Road, Christmas Road and Old Gay Hill Road in Precinct 3.
- Heard the monthly Washington County Expo report. A scheduled presentation from Washington County Historical Commission Chair Tom Stevens will be heard at a future meeting.
- Approved a 60-day extension of 113 excess vacation hours for Amy Klussmann with Washington County EMS.
