WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS DISBURSE TOM GREEN CO. SCHOOL LAND REVENUE
The Brenham and Burton Independent School Districts will receive approximately $280,000 in revenue from Washington County school land in Tom Green County.
At their meeting this (Tuesday) morning, Washington County Commissioners approved the 2020-21 school lands report and disbursed funds to the school districts. Each year, the court distributes revenue generated from mineral rights and leases for hunting and agricultural use in Tom Green County to the two districts based on average daily attendance (ADA).
This year, Brenham ISD received $255,498, while Burton ISD received $24,591. Last year, revenue distributions totaled $271,917 for Brenham ISD and $25,845 for Burton ISD.
County Treasurer Peggy Kramer said the reason for the decrease in revenue from 2020 is because interest was down.
Also at today’s meeting, the court accepted a donation of six tactical vests from DPS to the Precinct 1 Constable’s Office. Precinct 1 Constable Ken Holle said the vests provide additional ballistic protection in the event of an active shooter. According to Holle, each vest weighs around 50 pounds and costs roughly $1,500.

- Accepted a bid for one used motor grader from Mustang Cat for the Engineering and Development Services Department. County Engineer Ross McCall said the unit being purchased is a 2019 Cat 140 GC with about 1,200 hours of use, along with a 3-year, 5,000 hour warranty, for $226,000. McCall said the county’s oldest motor grader in use has about 20,000 hours, compared to the typical useful life of 10,000 hours.
- Approved acknowledgement and consent to BK Stringer, LTD’s collateral assignment to rights to reimbursement to Independent Bank. Brenham | Washington County Economic Development Director Susan Cates said the bank that performed the construction financing for the shopping center project at Highway 290 and Chappell Hill Street requested assignment of the benefits from their economic development incentive agreements with both the county and the City of Brenham, in case of BK Stringer defaulting.
- Approved a change order for the 2020 CTIF grant submitted by Strand Associates, Inc. on behalf of the contractor, Larry Young Paving, Inc. McCall said the change order is a decrease in the contract amount of $362.
- Approved a formal notice for a 10-inch temporary lay flat water line to be placed within the right of way of Bredthauer Road, Sandtown Road and Schoenemann Road in Precinct 4.
- Directed the Washington County Auditor’s Office to conduct an audit of the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office’s seizure and forfeiture accounts, pursuant to Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
- Heard monthly reports from Information Technology, the emergency management coordinator, county and district clerks, justices of the peace, auditor, tax assessor/collector, treasurer and constables.
