2021 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT ELECTION RESULTS
Each of the eight constitutional amendment proposals in Tuesday night’s election passed.
Unofficial results from the Secretary of State indicate that with 100 percent of polling locations reporting, all eight proposals were approved by voters.
The first proposition, which authorizes professional sports team charitable organizations to conduct raffles at rodeo venues, passed with 83 percent of the vote statewide.
Proposition 2, authorizing counties to issue bonds to fund infrastructure and transportation projects in undeveloped and blighted areas, received approval from 63 percent of voters.
Proposition 3, amending the Texas Constitution to prohibit the state or any political subdivision from prohibiting or limiting religious services, had 62 percent approval.
The fourth proposition, which requires 10 years of in-state law experience for candidates for the Texas Supreme Court, Court of Criminal Appeals or a Texas court of appeals, and also requires eight years of in-state law experience for district judge candidates, received 58 percent of the vote.
Proposition 5, which authorizes the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct to accept and investigate complaints and reports against candidates running for state judicial office, passed with 59 percent of voters.
The sixth proposition, amending the Texas Constitution to allow residents of nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, or state-supported living centers to designate an essential caregiver who cannot be denied in-person visitation, received approval from 87 percent of voters.
The seventh proposition, which amends the Texas Constitution to allow the legislature to extend a homestead tax limit for surviving spouses of disabled individuals as long as the spouse is 55 years old and resides at the home, also received 87 percent of the vote.
Proposition 8, amending the Texas Constitution to allow the legislature to apply a homestead tax exemption for surviving spouses of members of the military to those fatally injured in the line of duty, received 87 percent voter approval as well.
Washington County’s unofficial results align with those seen statewide. County Election Administrator Carol Jackson said there was a 10 percent voter turnout out of 23,912 registered voters.
