The former El Paso congressman and former U.S. Senate and presidential candidate officially launched his campaign this (Monday) morning, marking his third bid for elected office in four years.

In a tweet accompanying an announcement video, O’Rourke said he seeks to “push past the small and divisive politics that we see in Texas today – and get back to the big, bold vision that used to define Texas.”

Over the summer, O’Rourke made several stops across the state, including in Brenham, to build support for federal voting rights legislation as Democratic lawmakers left the state in protest of Abbott’s elections bill.

O’Rourke represented Texas' 16th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019.  He lost his bid for election to the U.S. Senate in 2018 against Ted Cruz, and was a candidate in the 2020 presidential election before suspending his race in November 2019.
