WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO REVIEW SPRING HOT FUND REQUESTS

Washington County Commissioners will potentially award hotel occupancy tax (HOT) grant funding to local organizations at their meeting Tuesday.

The court will review $31,900 in total HOT fund requests from four organizations seeking funding for the spring of 2022.  The requests come from the Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce, Chappell Hill Historical Society, Friendship Quilt Guild of Brenham and Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Foundation.

In September, commissioners allocated 2021’s HOT grant funding, totaling $23,400.  Beginning this upcoming year, local tourism entities are able to apply for two rounds of HOT funds for the spring and the fall.  Next year’s funding will be awarded this month and in June.

Also on Tuesday, the court will act on position descriptions for the county engineer, environmental health director and administrative and development supervisor.  Former County Engineer Ross McCall completed his final day with the county on Friday, and is joining TxDOT’s Bryan District.

County Judge John Durrenberger said the job description of the environmental health director is being updated to reflect a change in who the position reports to, as it was not adjusted when the position moved into the new Engineering and Development Services facility.  The item for the administrative and development supervisor is a pay grade adjustment.

Commissioners will also consider:

  • Amendments to the bylaws of the Washington County Historical Commission, along with approval of new members to the commission.
  • Approval of the annual update of EMS supplement to the county manual.
  • A replat for Lots 36 and 37 of the Sandy Creek Estates subdivision in Precinct 4.
  • A monthly report from the Washington County Expo.

Following the regular meeting at 9 a.m., commissioners will hold a workshop at 10:30 a.m. to discuss MASA Medical Transport Solutions, an insurance program that provides coverage for air medical and ground transport services.  Commissioners will go over how the program could benefit county employees and businesses, as well as how it relates to the county’s aviation program.

Both of the court’s meetings will be held at the Washington County Courthouse.

  1. We are tired of disrespectful neighbors INSIDE THE CITY LIMITS, where we pay huge taxes! They play loud music all times of the morning and night, SMOKE WEED in the front yard so much until you would think they are sending smoke signals across town, THEY SELL WEED IN THE EARLY MORNING AND LATE HOURS OF THE DAY, drink beer, cuss and fuss all day, park their cars all in front of my house and other neighbors and STRANGE FOLK WHO DO NOT LIVE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD COME AND GO ALL DAY/NIGHT! Clearly the police do not know this or THESE WEED SMOKING AND WEED SELLING FOLK MUST BE SNITCH INFORMANTS AND DEEMED UNTOUCHABLE BY THE POLICE. This goes on in my neighborhood ALL THE TIME. I raised my children in this neighborhood! My house is paid for! WHY SHOULD I MOVE because idiots cannot follow the law and the police and judicial system cannot hold idiots accountable to the law??? This happens INSIDE THE CITY LIMITS!

  2. No matter how the previous posts have made light of the situation, I have full confidence from talking to a VIP who would know in Washington County that I am not the only person having this problem. It’s only going to get worse, and as the county grows in population this problem will eventually have to be addressed.

    1. You are incorrect in the assumption that there will be ANY dog or noise ordinances outside of city limits. The city can barely handle the current amount of issues it has inside the city limits, and that is with all the city’s rules, regulations, and extra officials.
How do you think that the Sherriff’s Department is going to have time or care to deal with barking dogs?
Dogs bark, it is their job. It can be annoying as hell, but, that is what they do. I understand your plight, but you live next to someone. Sorry. Move further out of town.

  3. I understand “out in the country” what ya’ll obviously aren’t aware of is out in the county there are subdivisions just like in town houses side by side all the way down the road. Most of them have/had Bylaws because they were neighbor hoods developed out of the city limits. It would be disrespectful for me to play my music loud enough for all my neighbors to hear it for 4 to 8 hours a day even in these neighborhoods out of the city limits. Likewise, it is disrespectful to allow your dogs to bark for this long when you live in these close communities out of the city limits.

  4. The city folk don’t want to step in any piles in the pasture either. We need to make them bad old farmers pick up in their pastures too.

  5. I want the commissioners to discuss and implement a county ordinance for barking dogs that are left to bark all day or for hours at a time disturbing the peace in communities out in the county. If Brenham can have an ordinance like that, why can’t we out in the county ??? As of now, since none of the commissioners or judge is living with this problem, they won’t do anything about it. I urge you to call your commissioner and judge and complain if your living with this problem !

    1. Seriously? You want an ordinance out in the country to control barking dogs? What will be next, no crowing roosters, mooing cows or bellowing sheep? If you want peace and quiet, move to town or buy a bigger piece of property. You must not have grown up in the country!

      1. Your assumption is living out of the city limits is in the country. You may not be aware of the fact there are neighborhoods not in the city limits.

    2. No thanks. I‘ll pass on more government noseying into my life. Have you checked on the dog? Is it in distress? Talked to the owners? Maybe it just wants attention. If you’re home all day maybe you can babysit it and play with it and be a friend! Playing with dogs is known to lower your blood pressure and calm your nerves. Let’s try to find our own neighborly solutions before having government step in and stick their nose in our life.

      1. Already tried sharing with them how all the neighbors feel about their dog and they were offended and nasty about it and wont talk to me.

    3. I do not believe that this is a real comment.
This must be a set up to get replies.
Do you also want a county ordinance telling you how tall your grass should be?
If this is a real comment, I am sorry that you are disturbed.
You can proactively sound proof your house or ears.
If not, you will get used to it.
Just like living next to a train.
