Not only is the Blinn College Women’s Basketball Team 11-0 this season, they also donate their time tutoring students in Brenham’s Faith Mission SMART-CARE Kids program.  Blinn’s Basketball Team Captain Aldayshein Adrian, who has been around the SMART program for three years, due to a redshirt year and COVID says, “I love the SMART Kids, they are so respectful, and this helps me in my goal of being a teacher-coach.”

The Faith Mission SMART Kids program has been in existence since 2006 and provides cultural academic, recreation, and enrichment programs to children 5-12 to Brenham ISD families. Over forty students meet on Mondays and Wednesdays and are tutored by certified teachers, counselors, and other educational specialist.  Kids receive nutritional snacks as well as a Wednesday “family fest” meal provided by the Cannery Kitchen and served by parent volunteers.

Faith Mission Executive Director Rev. Randy Wells explains, “The Blinn Women’s basketball team has been the perfect example of spirituality, scholarship, sports and service.   Sometimes in order to be it, you have to see it, and because of these student athletes our SMART Kids believe college is an attainable goal.”  Story and photos courtesy of Faith Mission.
