Cubettes drop to 0-2 in district
The Brenham Cubette Basketball Team lost a hard fought game to the Magnolia West Lady Mustangs last (Tuesday) night 63-54. Both teams traded baskets in the first quarter with the Lady Mustangs hitting a three pointer in the final seconds to take an early 12-9 lead. It was more of the same with the Lady Mustangs outscoring the Cubettes 12-11 in the second quarter to take a 24-20 lead at halftime. Magnolia West came out firing in the second half, and took the third quarter 18-15 to extend their lead to 42-35. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Mustang lead reached as high as 15 points. Brenham battled back in the closing minutes, but could only cut the lead to nine points before the final buzzer. Magnolia West ended up winning the fourth quarter as well, 21-19. Arianah Lewis led the Cubettes with 35 points. Halle Scheel added 11 points. The loss drops Brenham to 9-6 on the season, and 0-2 in district. Next up, the Cubettes are on the road Friday night at Magnolia High School beginning at 6:30pm.
