A businessman from Huntsville is running to become the new state representative for a newly drawn House District 12, which includes Washington County.

Ben Bius, the founder and principal broker of B&B Properties, has announced his candidacy for the district.  Following redistricting, House District 12 will cover Grimes, Madison, Robertson, Walker and Washington counties, as well as the rural areas of Brazos County.

Bius describes himself as a “lifelong conservative,” and says he feels called to serve what he calls the “cradle of Texas independence.”

Bius graduated in 1979 from Sam Houston State University with a degree in finance before starting his company in 1981.  A former candidate for Texas Senate District 5, some of Bius’ priorities include securing the border and allowing Texans to govern themselves and be free from mandates and “federal overreach.”

Bius says he intends to have a close working relationship with local officials and focus on local issues.

Bius will run as a Republican in the March 1st primary against House District 12 incumbent Kyle Kacal, who is seeking a fifth term in office.
