ALL LOCAL ENTITIES’ SALES TAX REBATES UP IN DECEMBER

  

Sales and tax distributions were up in December for Washington County, Brenham and Burton, ending 2021 with six straight months of growth.

Washington County received $302,054 this month, up 19.65 percent from the $252,446 it took in last December.  For 2021, the county’s rebates totaled $3,576,154, an increase of 16.9 percent from last year’s $3,058,962 in allocations.

Brenham’s December rebate was $636,607, compared to a payout of $567,380 last December, up 12.2 percent.  This year, the city received $7,930,623, up 13.98 percent from 2020’s payments of $6,957,898.

Burton’s rebate this month came out to $8,456, up 3.22 percent from last December, when the city received $8,192.  The city had $90,872 in payments throughout 2021, 4.22 percent up from last year, when it received $87,192.

According to Comptroller Glenn Hegar, the state paid out $936 million in local sales tax allocations in December, up 18.4 percent from last December and up 14.5 percent in total for 2021.
