BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO TAKE UP TALKS ON BURTON SAUSAGE
The Burton City Council will revisit the topic of Burton Sausage Company’s return to the city at its meeting tonight (Tuesday).
The council will consider potentially rerouting city utilities to Burton Sausage, who is seeking to return to Burton after moving operations to Lufkin in 2020. The company is looking to have its property, located on 18 acres just east of Burton on Highway 290, annexed by the city and be provided with city water and sewer services.
Last month, the council opted to table a proposal to spend up to $20,000 on a study to determine the cost of providing services to the company.
Also at today’s meeting, councilmembers will consider conveying property at the end of East Branch Street and the road formerly known as South Colorado Street to American Kinetics Inc. They will also look to select a service for trimming trees and brush along Navasota Street and Texas and Burton Street from the bridge to Nueces Street. In addition, they will take up a request to close Live Oak Street between North Main Street and Railroad Street from 8 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, April 23rd for the annual Cotton Gin Festival.
The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
