TWO WASHINGTON CO. RACES AND HD-12 SEAT TO BE CONTESTED IN REPUBLICAN PRIMARY
Two Washington County races and a third for the county’s state representative will be contested in the primary elections in March.
Monday was the final day to file for candidacy for the primary, and the seats of Precinct 2 Commissioner, Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace and State Representative District 12 will all have competition on the Republican ballot. No Democrats filed for election.
Precinct 2 Commissioner Candice Bullock will be challenged by Mark Schonefeld, while Daniel McCarthy and Duane “Dane” Houston will vie for the post of former Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Ken Tofel, who retired in June.
Two other county positions will each have new faces come January 2023. Joy Fuchs and William E. “Bill” Kendall are not running for re-election to their respective seats as Precinct 4 Commissioner and Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace. Running in Fuchs’ place is Dustin Majewski and running for Kendall is H.C. “Buddy” Riddle.
All other races in Washington County will be uncontested. That includes the seats of County Judge John Durrenberger, Court at Law Judge Eric Berg, County Clerk Beth Rothermel, District Clerk Tammy Brauner, County Treasurer Peggy Kramer, Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Doug Zwiener and Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Douglas Cone.
In state races, the House District 12 seat of incumbent Kyle Kacal will be contested by fellow Republicans Ben Bius and Joshua Hamm in March.
Republican incumbent Lois Kolkhorst will be unopposed in the primary for Senate District 18, but will have an opponent in November with Democrat Josh Tutt.
For District 10 State Board of Education, incumbent Tom Maynard is unopposed in the Republican primary, and no Democratic candidates have filed for the position.
In the race for U.S. Congressional District 10, incumbent Michael McCaul will not have an opponent in the Republican primary. He will face Democrat Linda Nuno in the general election.
