HIGH-SPEED MOTORCYCLE CHASE ALONG HIGHWAY 290 TERMINATED NEAR CARMINE

A suspect remains at large after a high-speed motorcycle chase Tuesday morning in Lee County was terminated around Carmine.

Giddings police attempted to stop a motorcycle driver around 9:15 a.m. after receiving reports that the driver was passing other drivers in the turn lane on Highway 290 in Giddings.

The driver, identified as a black male wearing a black jacket, drove off at speeds of nearly 120 miles per hour, leading police and Lee County Sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit that left city limits headed east.

Police say the driver lost his helmet after it flew away around the intersection of County Road 234, and began struggling to control the motorcycle around the intersection with FM 180 in Ledbetter, but he continued to flee.

Officers pursued the motorcycle into Fayette County, but called off the pursuit just before 9:30 a.m. approaching Carmine.  The motorcycle had paper tags, so they were unable to read the license plate to identify the driver or possible owner.

No further identifying information was available.
