FLYING HORSES CAROUSEL RECEIVES REPAIRS, NEW PAINT

The Antique Flying Horses Carousel at Fireman’s Park in Brenham is getting a makeover.
The antique horses and gondolas were repaired and painted with new colors during this off-season. Mechanical work is scheduled before the carousel reopens in March.
Public Works Manager Shawn Bolenbarr says the work is a continuation of a project that began roughly two years ago.
The project is funded by the Brenham Community Development Corporation (BCDC), using funding from local sales tax dollars that are dedicated to Brenham Parks and Recreation projects.
Brenham’s Flying Horses Carousel is the oldest in Texas and one of only five surviving classic wood carousels that exist in the state. It made its debut at the Washington County Fair on October 12, 1932.
