It was a very successful weekend for members of the Burton High School FFA as they took part in rodeo competitions over the weekend.

The Burton FFA Red Team was named the Champion FFA Team at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo on Sunday.

The team consisted of Weston Hinze, Tanna Thiel, and Chet Fritsch. Individually, Hinze finished third overall, Thiel was fifth overall, and Fritsch was 17th overall.

There were 680 individuals that took part in the contest. Students had to judge nine classes including; 3 market hog classes, 2 market steer classes, 1 market lamb class, 1 market goat class, 1 breeding ewe class, and 1 heifer class.

They also had to answer 20 questions about four of the classes.

Meanwhile, Waylon Hinze and Kaiden Kalkhake, who are also representing the Burton FFA, finished third in the Team Roping at the Texas High School Region IX Rodeo Competition.

The event was held this past Saturday and Sunday in Bryan.

Hinze and Kalkhake, who are in their first year of competition together, have now qualified for the State Meet in June.

Meanwhile Chet Fritsch from Burton and his teammate Blane Warnken from Schulenburg placed eighth in the Region VI competition, which also qualifies them for State in the Texas High School Rodeo Series in team roping.
