(Mark Whitehead)
The Washington County Commissioners Court will maintain its current look, at least until January, and Precinct 3 will have a new Justice of the Peace.
Precinct 2 Commissioner Candice Bullock won re-election during Tuesday’s Republican primary for a second term in office, defeating challenger Mark Schonefeld 927-722. Bullock will be unopposed in November’s general election.
Bullock said she is thrilled to be able to continue the work she and other commissioners are doing for the county.

Bullock said she will strive to communicate better with constituents through avenues such as a personal website and social media. She also had nothing but praise for her opponent and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Schonefeld is happy for all of the public’s participation in the election, no matter the outcome, and said he wants to work for the community however he can.

Schonefeld, who did not rule out another run in the future, believes this race will result in more communication between elected officials and the public.
Meanwhile, for Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace, Duane “Dane” Houston will fill the seat of the now-retired Ken Tofel, receiving 1,112 votes to Daniel McCarthy’s 537. Houston will also not have a Democratic opponent in November.
Houston thanked all of his supporters and commended McCarthy on a well-run campaign. He said his boots-on-the-ground efforts meeting with community members were key to his success.

McCarthy congratulated Houston on his win and said he is grateful for all of the support he received. He hopes that his campaign addressed the need to pay attention to the younger generation.

Also unopposed on the Republican ballot was Precinct 4 Commissioner candidate Dustin Majewski, who will succeed outgoing Commissioner Joy Fuchs upon the expiration of her current term at the beginning of the new year. In addition, Republican H.C. “Buddy” Riddle ran unopposed for the seat of Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Bill Kendall, who, like Fuchs, did not seek re-election.
All other Republican candidates in Washington County were uncontested on Tuesday and will remain without an opponent in November. That includes County Judge John Durrenberger, Court at Law Judge Eric Berg, County Clerk Beth Rothermel, District Clerk Tammy Brauner, County Treasurer Peggy Kramer, Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Doug Zwiener and Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Douglas Cone.
According to Election Administrator Carol Jackson, there were a total of 6,678 ballots cast in the primary election, including 5,872 by Republicans and 806 by Democrats. A total of 4,029 people participated in early voting, 16.7 percent of the county’s 24,111 registered voters, while Election Day saw 2,649 people. The overall turnout for the election was 27.7 percent, which Jackson called a “really good turnout.”
I hope Candice will do her job!
Stop working about the rich and the city and get in the country
100% agree! Her lack of response on various issues is why I would not support her. She completely ignores emails and requests for assistance. Even if she can’t assist a simple response would be the professional thing to do. Hopefully, we see improvement in that area.
Show compassion for all children who make mistakes! Not just the ones you know!
Amen
I second that! Your precinct is mostly in the country get out in the county and get a little dirt on your shoes, and lets get things done!
What a surprise. Voter never had a choice since Fuchs hand picked Majewski by waiting until last minute to announce she wasn’t running and having Majewski there to file. What a joke.
What’s your issue?
I don’t think you could have had a better person take this position.
