AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING RESTAURANT BURGLARIES IN BRENHAM, BURLESON CO., BRYAN

A Brenham donut shop is one of numerous restaurants and food establishments around the area that have reported burglaries this week.

Brenham police say two men wearing dark clothing and facial coverings forced entry into Max Donuts on Market Street early Thursday morning, just before 1:30 a.m.  An undisclosed amount of cash was reported stolen.

Meanwhile, six restaurants were burglarized overnight Thursday in Burleson County, including four in Somerville, one in Caldwell and one in the county.  Authorities are investigating break-ins at Lorena’s Taco Shop, Mama’s Kitchen, Moe’s BBQ and Neinast Restaurants in Somerville, the Garden Spot Café in Caldwell and La Bamba Mexican Grill & Bar in the county.

Another four restaurants in Bryan were broken into early Wednesday morning, those being Imperial Chinese & Sushi, Cotton Patch Café, Mr. Hamburger and Babe’s Doughnut & Coffee Shop.

Brenham police believe the incidents are linked, due to the same pattern of behavior and suspect description.  However, investigators are communicating with other agencies to confirm if they are connected.

  1. This is a prime example of repercussions of old school administration in Law Enforcement.
Brenham has issues with retaining officers .
Officers leave departments because of salary discrepancies, internal failures to incentivize aggressive enforcement activity, dismantling specialized units such as K9 , inconsistencies within command staff, failure to modernize tactics to stay one step ahead of the criminal element . When you have no deterrent you will have crime and right now Brenham and the smaller surrounding towns are soft targets for the professional criminal element from the big city.
Proactive building patrol cannot be accomplished when your department is short staffed , that is a given, so maintaining adequate staffing and enthusiasm should be priority with any law enforcement agency.

  2. I find it hard to believe that anyone that runs a business would leave large amounts of cash on the premises overnight. When my father had his practice and office in downtown Brenham some 40 years ago, I remember that at the end of every day, he would leave a $5 bill, 5-$1 bills, and probably two or three dollars in change in the change drawer; everything else was deposited in the bank, brought home, or kept to be deposited before he opened for business the next day. Several of the businesses in College Station reported that they had HUNDREDS of dollars left there overnight. To me, that’s just foolhardiness and what these pinhead thieves are banking on.
